The Alexandra Timber Tramway and Museum is a tourist railway and museum that features local timber history from the Rubicon Forest, historical displays of local, tramway and railway history and has one of the largest machinery collections in Victoria.
In our 31 years of passenger operations we have seen more than 60,000 passengers ride our trains and visit the museum. There are always lots of children’s activities, picnic areas, and the Great Victorian Rail Trail starts and ends at the Alexandra Timber Tramway.
The museum is open on the second Sunday of each month for steam train rides and diesel or petrol hauled train on the fourth Sunday. Groups can be catered for and are always welcome.
We also host the Alexandra Market in the grounds of the historic former railway station on the second Saturday of each month from September to May. Here you can browse through a diverse range of stalls including fruit and veg, local crafts, jams and produce, as well as tools, homewares and food stalls. Or take the kids on a train ride through the historic railway grounds.
