Taggerty is centrally located to Alexandra, Marysville and Eildon. The township is dominated by the distinctive Cathedral Mountain with its wonderful State Park wildlife, walking trails and camp sites. Eildon The town of Eildon emerged when the construction of sugarloaf dam was builtin the early 1900's and improved upon again in the 1950's and then renamed Lake Eildon. With 515kms of shoreline it is one of the largest artificial lakes in the state, providing water for irrigation and hydro-electricity.
The natural beauty and vast waterways quickly opened up to tourism making it one of Victoria's primary destinations in the warmer months. Marysville is a sub-alpine resort town noted for its scenic attractions and many guesthouses. It is the wintertime base for the cross-country ski fields of Lake Mountain. Marysville is beautifully located amidst tree-laden mountains at a bracing elevation, and is especially attractive when the flowers are blooming in spring or shedding their leaves in autumn.

Yarck, a little village about 17km north of Alexandra, is a popular rest stop on your way to Mansfield and Mt Buller. It has a Hume & Hovel historic marker and is charmed with historic buildings. There is a delightful antique store, a good old fashioned country pub and a general store that sells fuel and the best pies from here to Melbourne.
